Dunstable Round Two – 2017

Dunstable Swimming Club got the 2nd leg of the National Arena League 2017 off to a fantastic start with a great 4th place position in their West Midlands Division 2 gala following promotion in 2016.  Held at the brand new Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester on 11th November 2017, DSC swimmers were on good form despite the long journey on a coach.  Special mention goes to the 13 Year old Girls on the night, as many swam 5 races or more and each made an outstanding contribution.

Competing against Wyre Forest, Stratford Sharks, Arnold, Orion SC and City of Coventry ‘B’, DSC were against some very tough competition.  DSC did not disappoint, and the whole squad worked really hard all night with the relays in particular being tremendously exciting to spectate especially the mens 6 x 50m freestyle relay where DSC finished in a blistering 2nd place.

The atmosphere poolside was very much alive, and certainly the support from DSC parents did not disappoint!

The points at the end of this 1st round gala were as follows;

1st place – Orion SC – 216
2nd place – Arnold – 199
3rd place – Stratford Sharks – 175
4th place – Dunstable – 158
5th place – City of Coventry ‘B’ – 150
6th place – Wyre Forest – 143

Overall Dunstable achieved a 4th place position on the night, achieving 7 1st place positions, 7 2nd place positions and 8 3rd place.  On the league table, this puts us in a very respectable 15th place position out of 24 teams.

DSC also celebrated some excellent new PB’s.  Swimmers of the gala went to Jessica Kefford and Sam Mead who both made outstanding contributions to the gala.  Walter Hackett also established a new club record in his 14 yrs 100m backstroke in a tremendous 1.01.28 – Well done to all of you.

Thank you to all DSC swimmers that competed and did their best, for what is a high profile event.  Thank you also to the organisers and supporters that make this event so well organised with over 10,000 swimmers competing all across the country on the same night!

DSC look forward to competing in the 3rd round of NASL on Saturday December 9th 2017, venue TBC.
